Avis Mexico Rental Terms for travel between 08-Nov-2016 and 31-Dec-2024

Additional Drivers
All drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver’s license requirements as the renter.  Renter’s spouse or life partner, disabled renters who need assistance and co-workers (corporate rentals) are free of charge.  Any additional driver must be present at the time of rental to sign the additional driver’s form.  A maximum of 2 additional drivers are allowed.
The additional driver fee is 143.00 MEP per day for each additional driver.  The maximum charge is 715.00 MEP per rental. An additional underage fee will apply for drivers 21-24 years of age and will be subject to tax and surcharges.

At the time of rental we will request an authorization on your charge card.  The amount of this pre-authorization will be determined by the responsibility waiver the customer decides to choose from our responsibility waiver options.
When the rental agreement is closed, we will deduct the pre-authorization amount from the total.  The remaining amount will then be released. 

Pre-authorizations vary according to the selected Responsibility Waiver Option:

Cash Rentals: are not allowed.  All renters must present an acceptable charge card.  
Travel Vouchers:  Avis-honored vouchers are accepted as payment only.  Renters must also present an Avis-honored credit card. The credit card must be issued under renter’s name.  Travel vouchers and coupons must be in U.S. dollars other currencies are not accepted.  Customer must present a credit card for any extras.


Debit Cards
Debit cards are only accepted as a form of payment at the end of the rental in substitution of the credit card presented at the beginning of the rental.


Travel into Central / South America:
Vehicles rented from Mexico cannot go into Central or South America.

Waiver and Protection Options
Responsibility Waivers and Protection Options

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Our recommendation to all our customers will always be to acquire our 100% waiver protection (LDW).  This is an optional product.  It releases the renter of all financial responsibility in the case of an accident or theft.  This is our most complete coverage product; It includes tires and wind shields.
It does not include the cost of replacing lost license plates or keys, tow services and police fines.  Client must follow all driving conditions stated in our terms of service clauses, any infractions to the stated conditions voids this coverage.  If this option is declined, the renter is fully responsible for the total value of the Avis vehicle, stolen accessories, repairs and loss of use during repairs, also the customer must sign an ‘Acknowledgement of Responsibility’.  To review the pre-authorization on the customer’s credit card please review Pre-authorization section.
Other coverages may be available at the counter, check upon arrival for information.

Damage to people and their property
Limited Third Party Liability Protection (SLI)
This coverage is included in our rental rate at no cost for the customer. Covers damage to property other than the Avis vehicle and the renter’s, driver’s or passenger’s property.  This is a limited coverage as it covers the basic limit requested by law by each Mexican state.  Car Theft or damage to parts and accessories are not covered for this insurance.  All expenses related to the Avis vehicle are not included in this option.  Client must follow all driving conditions stated in our terms of service clauses, any infractions to the stated conditions voids this coverage.

Additional Liability Insurance –ALI (additional third party liability protection)
This option is available at all Mexican locations.  The purchase of this option increases the limit from 1 million pesos up to 15 million pesos in coverage for property damage and third party property liability.  Car Theft or damage to parts and accessories are not covered for this insurance.  All expenses related to the Avis vehicle are not included in this option.  Client must follow all driving conditions stated in our terms of service clauses, any infractions to the stated conditions voids this coverage.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
The purchase provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the vehicle up to 500,000.00 MEP per event.  Client must follow all driving conditions stated in our terms of service clauses, any infractions to the stated conditions voids this coverage.

Fuel Charges
A full tank of gas is provided at the time of rental and the vehicle should be returned with a full tank of gas to avoid additional charges.  
Refueling charge may result in a rate per gallon higher that the local retail gasoline price and is subject to taxes and fees.  All rental locations offer prepaid gas options at market value and can be selected at time of rental.  There are no refunds for unused gas.


Delivery and Collection
Free delivery and pick-up service is available to hotels.  Reservation must be made with the pick-up information (the arrival time and the ships name) in remarks if applicable.  A 24 hour advance reservation is required for an automatic confirmation reservation.

Cancun (R4P, R6P) Stations provide pick-up and drop-off service to any hotel within Cancun’s hotelier zone. Customer is picked up at their hotel and delivered to the nearest location. The customer’s hotel name must be in remarks. Customer should call 52-998-173-8030. Service available on request at no charge.
Queretaro (QRO) Reservations must include hotel name or meeting point. All pick-ups are ON REQUEST. A fee for pick-up service might apply; customer will be informed at confirmation.
FBO Service for:

Service is available to the private terminal and to the main terminal.
NOTE: The tail number and name of the terminal must be on the reservation. The customer will be picked up.


One Way Rentals 
Cars may be returned to locations within the same city without a one-way fee.  Cars may be returned to other Avis locations in Mexico, drop off charges may apply.  
One-Way Restrictions:
    1. One-way rentals are not available to or from Cozumel.
    2. One-way rentals between La Paz (LAP, US7) and Mazatlan (MZT, ZX5) are NOT allowed.  
    3. Cars cannot be driven into or rented one-way to any other country in Central or South America.    
    4. ONLY cars rented in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Mexicali and Tijuana are allowed into the U.S.  However, cars rented in Mexico are NOT allowed to terminate in the U.S. 


Smoking in Vehicle Fee: Our fleet is Non-Smoking; a cleaning fee of 250.00 USD will be applied in case customer decides to smoke in our vehicle.
Loss of Use: In case of any damage (or detention by law enforcement) to the rented car that prevents the unit from being rented again, the customer will be responsible for the loss of use while the car is in repairs.  This policy applies only to the cases where the customer decided not to acquire one of our responsibility waiver products or the waiver is void by not following rental guidelines accepted and signed at the time of rental.
Excess Soil Fee:  In case of excessive soil, odors, stains or any other situation that requires our company to apply a special procedure to clean the car interiors, upholstery, etc., a cleaning fee of 250.00 USD will apply.
Mexico City Driving Restrictions: Driving cars in Mexico City is limited based on license plate and days of the week.  Check with reservations or the counter for additional details.

The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
